Strawberry, Tomato Salad with Mozzarella (Dorie Greenspan - Around my French Table)

Strawberries and Tomatoes do not sound as if they would complement each other but in this salad they are delicious!

(I normally would not give out any of her recipes but this is a recipe that I have found in many areas)

Ingredients:

-1/2 pd fresh Mozzarella sliced (or mini mozzarella)
-Sweet strawberries Sliced or quartered (16 is suggested) washed and dried (stems removed)
-cherry tomatoes sliced or quartered (16 is suggested) or 2 regular size tomatoes slice to the sizes of the strawberries you cut.
-basil a couple sliced thin (chiffonade - roll 4 to 5 basil leaves together and slice thin) just when serving
-salt
-pepper (I used pink as it is milder in taste than other pepper but it is $13 a container and not used regularly) but regular pepper freshly ground will do great
-balsamic vinegar
-olive oil

How to make this delicious salad

1. place 2 slices of mozzarella slices on each serving plate.
2. in a bowl mix strawberries and tomatoes, adding a few drops of olive oil, s/p to taste and mix
3. place strawberry/tomato mixture on plate with mozzarella
4. drizzle some more olive oil and then drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the strawberry/tomato salad
5. if using pink peppercorns (rub a few between your fingers over the salad)
6. place basil shreds over the tomatoes and mozzarella and serve
7. taste to make sure seasonings are right.

*you do not want to overpower this simple dish with too much oil/vinegar/s/p
